Check 21 Update

C21Express C21Express is a new product that allows credit unions and banks with limited statement processing needs to take advantage of all of the Check 21 services offered by the Federal Reserve Bank and other correspondent banks.  C21Express accepts incoming X9.37 cash letter files and over-the-counter items captured with ProofPC32.  Return item processing allows institutions to flag images for electronic return item cash letters and send the returns electronically.  C21Express and ProofPC32 provide a complete electronic solution for Check 21 processing.  Click here for more information on C21Express or visit our Software page.

Experience to Count On

C&A Associates, Inc. is a leading vendor in Check 21 processing solutions.  Many of our associates have been involved in remote capture solutions since 1979 when distributed processing allowed financial institutions to perform their own check collection and cash management solutions.  This experience can assist your institution with realizing the financial and competitive benefits of the new Check 21 electronic item processing environment.

Image Cash Letters

140+ C&A Customers Now Sending Image Cash Letters

C&A customers are taking full advantage of Check 21.  Over 140 financial institutions using C&A software are sending electronic image cash letters to either the Federal Reserve Bank or other correspondent banks.  This makes us one of the leading vendors of Check 21 compliant software in the industry today.  The first C&A customer to begin sending cash letters has been using the Federal Reserve Bank's FedForwardsm service since March of 2005.  Since that time, a number of financial institutions have capitalized on the benefits of the Check 21 environment, and more C&A customers are converting each week.  Customer financial institutions can send one or more outgoing cash letters each day depending on their individual needs.  These institutions are experiencing substantial cost savings from reduced courier costs, better utilization of personnel, reduced insurance expenses, and improved funds availability.  Like many of our customers, these banks have been receiving COF image files and allowing the Federal Reserve Bank to truncate the actual checks in the incoming cash letters for several years.  As a result, the bank reduced the volume of checks being processed on their sorter by 50% or more.

Now, C&A customers have the added benefit of processing the outgoing cash letter electronically.  This results in a big reduction in the volume of paper checks being handled by the bank.  In fact, some institutions have been able to replace expensive, high maintenance cost capture devices with smaller machines resulting in substantial immediate cost savings.  With extensive validation of the outgoing cash letter items, the Check 21 implementation has resulted in a minimum amount of errors and adjustments.

C&A can easily provide custom values in the outgoing X9.37 file.  This feature allows C&A customers to send electronic cash letters to other correspondent banks, banker's banks, and other processors, and multi-bank capabilities make C&A software the perfect solution for third-party processors, correspondent banks, and credit union leagues.

Remote Capture Solutions

International Image Capture is an Extreme Example

C&A staff members have the knowledge and experience to implement remote capture in any environment.  Branches and customers can capture documents in remote location and forward them to the central site for consolidated processing.  Some C&A customers are capturing checks in foreign countries and forwarding them electronically for deposit with the Federal Reserve Bank or another correspondent bank in the United States eliminating transportation costs and improving availability by as much as 3 days.  Our staff has been working with remote capture solutions since 1979, and the new capture devices available today provide a cost efficient alternative to processing paper checks and documents.

Image Return Item Cash Letters

90+ C&A Customers Now Receiving Image Cash Letters
and Sending Return Item Image Cash Letters

In July of 2004, C&A customers began receiving incoming electronic cash letters from the Federal Reserve Bank and other correspondent banks.  Electronic cash letters provide endorsement histories that can be displayed from within ImageChex32.  In December of 2005, C&A customers began sending electronic return item cash letters to the Federal Reserve Bank using the FedReturnsm service (C&A was one of the first vendors to send electronic return item cash letters).  FedReturnsm allows banks to send returns electronically by specifying the return reason, bank of first deposit, and bank of first deposit date.  This service allows banks to completely eliminate courier costs because no transportation of return checks to the Federal Reserve Bank is required.

The latest version of ImageChex32 with support for electronic cash letter receipt and electronic return item cash letters is now available to existing and new customers.  The new features allow financial institutions to take advantage of the full range of Check 21 services offered by the Federal Reserve Bank.  Contact our sales department at 800-679-7764 for more information.

Merchant/Customer Capture

C&A customers using Check 21 services are also using Merchant/Customer capture to expand their customer base.  Bank customers can now capture deposits and checks, allowing them to make "electronic" deposits rather than having to make a trip to the bank to deposit the physical items.  By taking advantage of low-cost capture devices, financial institutions can expand their customer base without having to build new branches.  These customer relationships can be established without having geographic limitations because the electronic deposit can be made from virtually anywhere in the world.  See how one of our customers, a small start-up bank, is capitalizing on the new Check 21 environment to expand their customer base.
