When disaster strikes, every minute counts for emergency
responders arriving on the scene. Amid the volatility and chaos
inherent to most natural and man-made disasters, first responders
and the Command Center must have reliable information about the
location of equipment, supplies, and medical/emergency personnel
to control the environment and quickly triage and treat victims in
need of medical attention.
Victims and Staff
RFID tagging of people and medical assets has been deployed in
emergency rooms and hospitals for years. Rapid deployment of RFID
tagging at a disaster site allows First Responders to track availability
of medical staff and the whereabouts/status of victims as they move
through the triage and treatment process. It can also serve to track
those individuals who need ambulance or air transport, so they can
be quickly identified and moved from the scene.
Equipment and Supplies
As equipment and supplies are deployed to the disaster site, the
ability to track the status of generators, water supply and medical
supplies allows the Disaster Response team to have the proper
equipment in the right place at the right time.
Command Center Support
Information from the RFID tags can be quickly picked up by the
on-site command center, which can then be fed to the main
command center so that correct resources can be deployed.
